Celestial Eclipse Gown《日晷藏青长裙》
A gown where Tsinghua’s legacy intertwines with botanical allegory
Product Features
-
his maxi skirt is made of high quality navy silk-wool fabric, which skillfully blends the smoothness of silk with the softness of wool, making it delicate to the touch and comfortable to wear. The lining is made of 16mm silk crepe de chine, which is light and soft, with a natural luster that complements the outer fabric and enhances the overall sense of sophistication. The embroidery on the chest is a demonstration of the exquisite craftsmanship of the embroiderers.
-
Flat needle embroidery, rotary needle embroidery, and pan gold embroidery, which Jin embroidery specializes in, are used. The production process of pan gold embroidery is delicate and complicated. The embroiderer first uses a pencil to lightly draw the outline of the pattern on the cloth, and then threads special tough gold threads through the holes of the needle. With skill and experience, the embroiderer will follow the outline and drop the needle with precision in terms of strength and angle, so that the slightest mistake will result in the loss of the work. When embroidering, the position and tightness of the gold threads need to be adjusted from time to time, and the lines need to be continuous to ensure that the embroidery is spread out and beautiful. The pattern was inspired by the sundial at the south end of the lawn in front of the Tsinghua University auditorium in Beijing, China, which was dedicated to the alma mater by the graduating class of 1920.
-
The sundial is not only a symbol of Tsinghua University, but also witnessed the ups and downs of the garden, and during the centennial celebration of Tsinghua University in 2011, the old sundial was put on display in the School History Museum, and replaced by an original replica. The embroiderer replaced the sundial needle with a flower and added elements such as flowers and butterflies, which not only added visual beauty, but also gave the pattern a deeper cultural meaning. In traditional Chinese culture, flowers often symbolize good fortune, wealth and happiness, conveying a unique way of auspiciousness. The introduction of floral patterns gives new life to the sundial, an ancient timekeeping instrument, and also expresses the desire and wish for a better life. The combination of the natural beauty of flowers and the ancient wisdom of the sundial symbolizes the concept of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, reminding people to cherish time and pursue a meaningful and valuable life
